Richard is a three-time Tony Award winning producer and seven-time Tony nominee. In addition to Broadway, he is one of the most active American producers in the West End, and won his first Olivier Award in 2024 for co-producing Dear England, which won Best New Play.
While Richard’s interest in theatre goes back to his childhood, he became a full time producer in 2023 following his retirement after 32 years as a partner in one of the largest law firms in the world. Over the past decade, he has invested in over 50 shows around the world. He began co-producing in 2019, with The Play That Goes Wrong Off-Broadway. That production is still running, and recently celebrated its 1,800th performance.
Richard’s three Tony Awards are for Merrily We Roll Along (Best Revival of a Musical, 2024), Parade (Best Revival of a Musical, 2023), and The Inheritance (Best Play, 2020). He is also a four-time Drama Desk Award winner: The Piano Lesson (Outstanding Revival of a Play, 2023), Parade (Outstanding Revival of a Musical, 2023), Peter Pan Goes Wrong (Unique Theatrical Experience, 2023), and The Inheritance (Best Play, 2020); and a two-time Outer Critics Circle Award winner: Parade (Outstanding Revival of a Musical, 2023), and Fat Ham (John Gassner Award for New American Play, 2023). Richard is also a co-producer of the Museum of Broadway, and an Associate Member of the Broadway League.
Richard serves on many charitable boards, including the Folger Shakespeare Library in Washington, D.C. (Board of Governors), the Massachusetts Historical Society (Advisory Council), Honors Carolina (Advisory Board), USS Constitution Museum (Board of Trustees), and the New England Historic Genealogical Society (Councilor). On April 4, 2024, His Majesty King Charles III sanctioned the promotion of Richard to Commander of the Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem. He serves on the Chapter of the Priory in the United States of America.
